BARNSLEY MP Dan Jarvis has called on the owners of Monckton coke works to consider "all possibilities to avoid redundancies".
The plant, at Royston, has been put under review by Hargreaves Services PLC as it's losing money and could be closed - with 126 jobs at risk.
Mr Jarvis said: "I'm very concerned to hear about the Monckton coking plant's financial situation.
"Whilst I know the site hasn't always been popular with local residents, it would be a big blow if so many jobs were to be lost, given the consequential impact that would have on the Barnsley economy.
"Given the challenging economic climate, it will be very difficult for those families facing an uncertain future.
"I urge Hargreaves to consider all possibilities to avoid redundancies and ensure that the workforce has the security it deserves."
