CHANGES have been made to the way Barnsley Council conducts its admission arrangements for schools in the town.
Currently, anyone sending in an application for their child to go to secondary school between November 1 and November 30 is classed as ‘on time’, despite a deadline of October 31.
However under new guidance, which will be brought in ahead of the 2026/27 school year, those who submit during November will be classed as late.
A report states: “There is a change from previous schemes, as late applications received after the national closing date of October 31 will be considered after all those received by the closing date.
“This is to ensure compliance with the national School Admissions Code and to support the co-ordination of admissions with neighbouring authorities. Barnsley Council has previously considered secondary applications received between November 1 and 30 as being on time.”
