Group marks World Cancer Day by raising thousands of pounds

A SPONSORED walk to mark World Cancer Day has raised £2,000 for charity.

Amy Bassinder from Barnsley Healthcare Federation and BHF Social Prescribing Team organised the event in aid of Macmillan Barnsley on World Cancer Day.

£2,000 was raised by Amy and the team at Barnsley Healthcare Federation with support from Eileen Jones at Macmillan Barnsley, with other services getting involved on the day. A team of 40 people, members of the public and staff from Barnsley-based services, walked from the Barnsley Hospital Macmillan Pod through the town centre to BHF Priory Centre in Lundwood.

Amy said: “The public stopped in cars and chatted with the group along the way. Once at the BHF Priory Centre the group celebrated with services and members of the public, whilst enjoying food, drinks and competitions.”
