PROPOSALS for a ‘no waiting at any time’ restriction on two local streets have gone out for public consultation.

In June 2020, plans for a residential development of up to 118 homes in Birdwell to the south of Hay Green Lane were approved by Barnsley Council’s planning board.

Parking currently takes place on the south side near the junction of Hay Green Lane and Sheffield Road which narrows the carriageway and reduces visibility.

As part of a traffic impact assessment, it was determined that the junction of Hay Green Lane and Sheffield Road would see an increase in traffic movements from the new housing development.

As such, the visibility splays at the junction should be improved and protected such that there is no obstruction.

As a result Barnsley Council has proposed a ‘no waiting at any time’ restriction at the junction of Hay Green Lane and Sheffield Road.

A report states: “The restrictions will ensure that the junction will be kept free from parked vehicles, maintain visibility for motorists and improve overall safety of pedestrians and other road users.

“Local ward members, ward manager, emergency services, SYMCA, parking enforcement and logistics/haulage companies were consulted on the 16th of December 2024 and no objections were received.

“For this reason, the proposed traffic regulation order (TRO) has been deemed suitable to progress to the next stage of the TRO process and is now subject to public consultation.

“Residents, local businesses and other interested parties may submit their support or objection for the proposed TRO at any time within the consultation period.”

Consultation ends on February 28.
