FOUR taxis were suspended following a recent enforcement check in Barnsley town centre.

On December 14, licensing enforcement officers from Barnsley joined officers from Sheffield, Kirklees and Wolverhampton and took part in a joint night-time operation.

A total of 45 vehicles were stopped – and only ten of them were licenced in Barnsley

Thirteen were from Leeds, ten from Sheffield, five from Chesterfield, four from Wolverhampton and three from Rotherham.

Of the ten from Barnsley, six were fully compliant with regulations.

Two were suspended for defective lights and two were suspended for non-compliant signage and licence plates.

A report said: “Vehicle and driver non-compliance is an issue officers are concerned with during the undertaking of every enforcement operation.

“Regardless of which authority issued the licence, defective vehicles are not acceptable and cannot be excused and officers will continue to proactively enforce both the legislation and our local conditions accordingly.”
