A FAMILY was forever changed two decades back when one brother took his own life and now they’re preparing to host a charity event to support others dealing with this type of indescribable grief.
Brother and sister Jonathan and Lucy Lee have suffered with their fair share of mental health problems following the untimely death of their brother Simon.
For Jonathan, this inspired him to take up a career in writing where he’s written about his own experience with depression for prestigious publications like the Huffington Post. But last year Lucy decided to start doing her own work to give back to others who’ve experienced losing a loved one through suicide.
She hosted a live music event at New Travellers’ in the town centre which raised money for SOBS (Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide) and admits she was surprised at how well it went.
“It was a bit of a guinea pig run,” she said.
“It was the first time I’ve done anything like that, but it went really well.”
The success has inspired her to bring back the event once again this year, which will take place at Vault 27 tomorrow.
“Because I know it did well last year I’m feeling a lot better about it,” she added.
“Anyone who wants to show up is more than welcome to."
Entry is free with donations accepted on the day.
