PENISTONE Town Council will host a by-election next month for a new parish councillor.

Four people have put themselves forward for the role, with the election taking place on Thursday, September 12.

Edward Dillingham will be Reform UK’s candidate for the election.

He received 21.5 per cent (9,456 votes) of the share at the recent general election.

The candidate for the Lib Dems is Matthew Nicholson, and Labour’s is Mark Slater.

Former town councillor David Wood is also standing in the by-election, he is not affiliated to any party.

He recently stood to become a Reform UK councillor in the Penistone West ward and received 429 votes, finishing fourth in May.

A spokesperson for Barnsley Council said: “A by-election will be held for a parish councillor for Penistone Town Council on September 12.

“Nominations have now closed.

“The polling station will be at St John’s Community Centre, Church Street, Penistone, Sheffield S36 6AR from 7am until 10pm.

“If you vote by post, you’ll receive a postal vote pack.

“If you wish to apply for a postal vote online, please visit GOV.UK Apply for a postal vote webpage no later than 5pm on the August 28.
