MORE than 30 gas canisters were picked up by volunteers clearing up just one stretch of road in Darfield this week.
Coun Kevin Osborne joined volunteers from the Barnsley South Area Team to clean up the A635 on Monday.
More than 40 bags of rubbish were collected and volunteers also put two large piles of fly-tipped items to one side to be removed by waste services.
Numerous canisters which contained class C drug nitrous oxide were also discovered.
Coun Osborne said: “Organised by Andrea Walker, the council’s environmental project officer, it’s such a pity that some choose to use public spaces to dump litter and fly-tipping with 33 nitrous oxide gas canisters dumped being a particularly worrying find.
