PENISTONE and Stocksbridge MP Marie Tidball has praised the new Employment Rights Bill which she says will help people across Barnsley in the future.

Ms Tidball is on the Employment Rights Bill committee and over recent weeks has been working to scrutinise the bill.

She says that earlier this month they completed the line-by-line scrutiny and it is now set to return to the House of Commons for its third reading.

The bill will also improve productivity and workers in Barnsley will have more rights than previously.

She said: “Over my time working on this Bill, I’ve had a chance to see first hand how this will help people in our constituency.

“So, if you are employed on zero hours contract will soon have guaranteed hours if you want them (you can also request to remain on zero-hours contracts if that is what you would prefer).

“Thanks to the Bill, you will never be fired and rehired on worse terms and conditions.

“If you are an expectant father or partner, you will get new rights from day one of your employment to parental leave.

“If you want to work flexibly because you are looking after family, you will now be able to ask your employer for new arrangements.

“Your rights will be enforced by the Fair Work Agency, bringing together existing enforcement bodies, which will also enforce rights such as holiday pay.

“Living standards and productivity growth declined under the Tories.

“The Employment Rights Bill is the first step in our plan to improve productivity and economic growth across the country.”
