ONE of the area’s most wanted suspected burglars is in police custody following an early hours’ pursuit across the county.

In the early hours of this morning (Tuesday) during the Proactive Roads Policing Team’s night shift, an officer sighted a Suzuki Cross in Penistone driving erratically and believed to be on cloned plates.

A police spokesperson said: “The dedication of officers to catch criminals and protect their communities is never overlooked, and footage released of the pursuit showcases the commitment our officers will take to ensure those responsible for blighting our communities are caught.”

At around 1.15am, the officer requested the driver of the vehicle to stop. When they failed to do so, a pursuit commenced. During the pursuit, the driver was witnessed to reach speeds of 90mph and driving on the wrong side of the road.

Providing commentary to his colleagues, the officer planned for a stinger to be used, which was successful but didn’t stop the driver taking chances to evade police.

To bring the pursuit to an end, the officer used their vehicle to push the suspect off the road and two suspects, including an alleged wanted burglar, were quickly arrested.

Roads Policing Inspector Matt Collings said: “Our officers are highly skilled and experienced drivers, but what cannot be instilled in any training is their passion and commitment to protecting and serving their communities; this is innate and makes them exceptional police officers.

“Those involved in criminality are more likely to take further risks on our roads and pose a danger to innocent members of the public. Our role as roads policing officers is to intercept their criminality and reduce that risk.

“The arrest in the early hours was a great result for the officers who have been looking for this suspect for a while, but it also a great result for the public of South Yorkshire knowing two suspects were apprehended and now face charges and court.”

The men arrested, who are 18 and 17 years old, remain in police custody at this time.
