PLANNING enforcement officers have confirmed they are investigating a councillor’s complaint about a lack of action being taken to clean up ‘eyesores’ in his ward.

Coun Jake Lodge, who represents Worsbrough, brought up the matter concerning Cross Street at last Thursday’s full council meeting.

The long-running issue – which dates back as far as 2016 – resulted in the councillor urging enforcement officers to act against negligent private landlords who are responsible for several properties on the street.

Coun Robin Franklin, cabinet member for regeneration and culture, said: “The council’s planning enforcement team have been alerted to the concerns and will investigate the matter.

“Section 215 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 provides a local planning authority with the power, in certain circumstances, to take steps requiring land to be cleaned up when its condition adversely affects the amenity of the area.”
