THOSE in attendance for Dorking Wanderers’ 0-0 draw with Weston-super-Mare on Saturday were met with an unlikely mascot from Barnsley.

Former Barnsley player Jon Parkin was nicknamed ‘The Beast’ during his playing career so it was rather comical to see him don the kit of Dorking on Saturday while holding the hand of a player to come onto the pitch in their 1,000th game.

The Under the Cosh podcast, of which Parkin is a co-host, shared a picture of him in the full kit online with the caption: “Something familiar about today’s @DorkingWDRS mascot.”

The club’s official X account replied: “Jon Parkin back in the National League. You love to see it.”
