FAMILIES were invited to a local school where authors helped unveil a new ‘reading den’.

Children’s author Rachel Knox and poet Duncan Thompson attended Holy Rood Catholic Primary School just on the edge of the town centre last Thursday to lead creative writing sessions with children in the newly opened space.

Families turned out early in the morning to see assistant headteacher Lois Heald cut the ribbon and explore the new reading den, which has been designed to give children a quiet space where to enjoy books and develop their reading ability.

Louise Ashmore, from the Read bookstore in Holmfirth, also joined.

Executive headteacher Karen Dobson said: “It was a wonderful event that was well attended and the children and families had an amazing time sharing the love of reading that the school has created.”
