BARNSLEY College has teamed up with one of the UK’s largest online fashion retailers as it launches its latest academy.
The college has partnered with fashion giant NEXT in a significant step in the its academy partnership programme.
A college spokesperson said: “Our academy scheme sees organisations join us in developing a fully-branded classroom, offering opportunities for employers to develop the curriculum with the skills most needed for the future – while giving students unique experiences such as placements, visits and talks that fully prepare them for the world of work.”
Based in the art, fashion and photography department, the NEXT academy joins more than 20 partnerships throughout the college – from local anchor institutions such as Barnsley Council and Barnsley Hospital, to logistics firms GXO and EVRi, and others spanning construction, digital, engineering and other industries.
David Akeroyd, Barnsley College Principal and CEO, said: “The academy programme is all about partnership and development, giving direction of travel to students who can properly engage with businesses in the area they want to be employed in.
“I’m delighted NEXT have chosen to join us on our journey of transforming our students’ lives. I think it’s a really exciting point in the development of the work we’re doing in this department.
“NEXT will be able to get involved with our students and help them to see the plethora of opportunities in the industry. We partner with organisations that fit with us culturally, ensuring our partners believe in the same things that we do – transforming lives, and giving opportunities for our students, staff and stakeholders.”
Simon Navarro, NEXT plc Recruitment Manager, said: “We have engaged with many different schools and colleges, but no one has had the enthusiasm and appetite Barnsley College has. We really appreciate the opportunity to be able to work alongside the College in transforming young adults’ lives.”
