MP backs campaign to protect retail staff

A LOCAL MP is backing a campaign to support and protect shop workers.

Barnsley North MP Stephanie Peacock said: “I was pleased to meet local Councillor Janine Bowler and Regional Secretary of USDAW, Joanne Thomas, to support Usdaw Union’s campaign to support and protect shop workers.

“The Labour Government has pledged to support and protect shop workers by ensuring that police always attend a report of shoplifting, and removing the £200 threshold for police investigation.

“As shoplifting often goes hand in hand with assault on workers, this will help to ensure that violent crime is treated with the seriousness it deserves, working towards a significant reduction in cases like this.”
