GRITTING teams are treating primary routes and the council has triggered its Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) as the Met Office issues a yellow weather warning.
The protocol involves providing temporary accommodation to anyone sleeping rough to help them stay safe.
Council teams will be out across Barnsley this evening, making sure no one is sleeping rough as temperatures drop below zero tonight.
If you’re concerned about someone sleeping rough in the borough, please let council teams know so they can help them get the support they need sooner.
A council spokesperson said: “Our gritting teams are treating primary routes. Grit is not instant and takes time to work, so please be patient, plan your journey and allow extra time.
“If the weather is really bad, we'll grit all the primary routes and move on to our secondary routes if we have capacity to do so.
“Our grit bins have been filled for use on the roads - not for personal use on driveways.”

Also, due to the weather warning for snow and ice, Barnsley outdoor markets in Barnsley town centre, Hoyland and Wombwell will be closed tomorrow (Tuesday). The indoor market at The Glass Works will remain open as usual.
