IN an attempt to provide more opportunities for elderly people to exercise a new female-only walking cricket tournament has begun.
Last Sunday, at Oakwell Indoor Centre, the inaugural tournament, organised by Barnsley FC Community Trust, was held with 18 people attending from all over Yorkshire.
The nine pairs played exceptionally well and made the most of the new opportunity at the end, winners Muriel Johnson and Ann Foster received trophies from one of the organisers, Neil Lunn.
Neil said: “It was a super afternoon of cricket with everyone contributing to the fun.
“We hope to make this an annual event and involve ladies from the other groups in the Yorkshire area.”
