TWO people have been banned from an area of Barnsley – which has been ‘plagued by antisocial behaviour’ – following successful work by Barnsley Council and South Yorkshire Police.

Darhaven in Darfield has been a hotspot for crime and antisocial behaviour in recent months with locals complaining to the police of the issues.

Last week, officers from Barnsley South’s Neighbourhood Policing Team and Barnsley Council staff conducted a warning to two individuals reportedly causing nuisance in the area.

A police spokesperson said: “This is after a number of reports of antisocial behaviour about the address.

“Officers entered the address and assisted Barnsley Council issuing two people at the address a Community Protection Warning prohibiting them coming back to the address.

“They were escorted from the premises.”

Coun Kevin Osborne, who represents the Darfield ward, has been working alongside councillors Trevor Smith and Pauline Markham to support the police and the council with their enquiries.

He said: “Darhaven has been plagued by antisocial behaviour for months and I have supported tenants in engagement with Berneslai Homes and others.

“One message was always clear – don’t tell Facebook, tell South Yorkshire Police.

“This is a great result for partnership engagement.”
