A SUPERMARKET has donated £8,000 to a local community centre to help them purchase a much-needed van.

In celebration of Morrisons’ 125th anniversary, the supermarket chain has launched their own Community Spaces Fund which will see 125 charities receive a share of £1m in grants.

Each charity can receive up to £8,000 and those chosen have been hand-picked by the store’s community champions - including Cortonwood Comeback Centre, which hosts a host of community events for all ages.

Steph Chatwood, community champion at the Brampton store, said: “The Community Spaces Fund is a great opportunity for local charities to bid for funding that could improve our community.

“There are lots of community spaces and facilities that would benefit from this funding boost.

“I am so pleased to say that Cortonwood Comeback Centre has received £8,000 - this will help the centre to buy a new van for their food bank.”

David Scott, trustee at the Morrisons’ Foundation , added: “Morrisons has always sought to give back to the communities it serves.

“So it’s fitting that as we celebrate 125 years, the foundation’s special fund will improve community spaces and local facilities up and down the country.”
