DETAILS have emerged of the final Care Quality Commission inspection of a Hoyland care home which was forced to close recently.

Woodlands Lodge Care Home, based on Hawshaw Lane in Hoyland, cared for people with dementia and recently had its contract terminated by Barnsley Council.

A total of 16 residents have been moved to alternative homes across the town.

At its final CQC inspection, which was held in October, it was once again told it was ‘inadequate’.

The report shows that the home was untidy and generally unsafe.

Alan Stephenson, CQC’s deputy director of operations in the north, said: “Woodlands was supposed to be a place that people call home, and we found the whole building was poorly maintained and unclean, with several environmental risks that could place people at harm.

“Strong odours throughout the home made it an unpleasant place for people to live.

“Storerooms were very untidy, plans to mitigate fire risks weren’t in place, and we found broken hoists and rusty shower chairs which needed replacing.”
