TAXI drivers across the borough who have suffered a loss of income due to the pandemic could be entitled to a payment of £500.
The payment was awarded to each licenced taxi driver in November last year and in January.
A third payment is now available for any licenced driver who is working in Barnsley and South Yorkshire.
Coun Sir Steve Houghton, leader of Barnsley Council, said: “We have been doing all we can to support businesses and individuals affected by Covid-19, and know this continues to be a difficult time due to loss of trade.
“Considering how tough this period had been for taxi drivers in accessing direct funding, we have provided two payments of £500 to taxi drivers previously. We have now agreed a further payment will be made from the council’s discretionary fund. It is important we support our taxi drivers who play a vital role in our local economy.”
Any drivers who receive the previous payments will automatically receive the payment. Any new drivers who would like to apply for the grant, click here.
