PENISTONE and Stocksbridge MP Marie Tidball says she is delighted following an increase in the number of youngsters in her constituency taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh scheme.

She met with policy and campaigns officer, Jack Lewis, and Hannah Barker, local operations officer, to discuss the D of E Award opportunities for young people.

She said: “Well done to the schools and youth organisations that provide the Duke of Edinburgh Award to our young people – it’s great to hear that there has been a 120 per cent increase in award sign-ups, and a 98 per cent increase in awards achieved over the past two years in our area.

“The Duke of Edinburgh Award involves young people under 25 taking part in a skill, a sport, volunteering, and an expedition. It’s a great way to get our youth learning outside the classroom while encouraging involvement in our local communities.

“The Duke of Edinburgh Award is looking to licence more organisations in our constituency to run the programme, such as sports clubs. Find out more information about becoming a licensed organisation here: https://www.dofe.org/run/getinvolved/.”
