THE Council has issued several alerts due to the severe weather including updates on road closures, phone lines and recycling centres.

A council spokesperson said: “Due to the snow and current weather conditions there are disruptions to some of our services.

“Our phone lines are currently very busy, so please only call us if it's an emergency. You can use the online forms on our website to apply for a service, make a booking, report something to us or pay for something.

“Some schools in the borough are currently closed. See our list of school closures for details of the schools and classes affected.”

The council also announced that all libraries are closed today.

Household waste recycling centres in Goldthorpe and Penistone are currently closed. The centres at Smithies and Worsbrough are open as normal.

The council also said that the following roads are currently closed due to snow or flooding:

  • B6097 New Road in Hemingfield, from the junction of Tingle Bridge Lane to the mini roundabout at the Lions Lodge estate in Brampton.

  • Smithy Bridge Lane in Hemingfield.

  • Barnsley Road at Aldham House bridge.
