STAFF and pupils at Holy Rood Primary School are celebrating after two bits of good news.

Work has just been completed on a £180,000 expansion and improvement project which has created a new main entrance, new offices and staff facilities and a larger car park.

Within days of that work finishing came the news that the Shaw Street-based school has been awarded £230,000 for a new roof.

Headteacher John Gregson said everyone at the shool was thrilled and delighted.

Mr Gregson said the new space will make life safer and easier for pupils and will help staff spend more time planning lessons and preparing work for their pupils.

"It's improved the working conditions for school staff enormously," he said. "We have done well to get the funding in such difficult times."

Work on the new school roof is scheduled to be carried out during the school summer holidays.
