A STRETCH of once-neglected footpath has been spruced up.
The route was earmarked for improvement work as part of the planning conditions on the development of the old Royston High School site and its entrance is off Midland Road, the former school’s site entrance.
Councillors Caroline Makinson, Pauline McCarthy and Dave Webster visited the footpath last week.
Coun Makinson said: “We are pleased to promote this stretch of community footpath which has been opened up off Midland Road.
“It leads directly to Barnsley Premier Leisure’s sports facilities, The Grove, Royston Lifelong Learning Centre and the Albert Shepherd Memorial Centre.
“This path is part of the active travel routes, and although it’s just a small path, it makes the journey more accessible for people with limited mobility, cutting out the steep walk from The Wells and up to the campus along Station Road.
“We will be installing way-finding signage but are really pleased that this path is now open and accessible to the residents of Royston.”
