PERHAPS the main event of the Barnsley Book Festival took place at the weekend as world-famous author Michael Rosen came to town.

Rosen’s book, ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’, is known worldwide and on Saturday he arrived in the town for a book signing and a family show.

He performed to a sold-out crowd at the Library @ the Lightbox and was introduced by the Bard of Barnsley Ian McMillan.

There’s still a full week left of the council’s second book festival, with an array of events over the next few days.

Acclaimed author John Ironmonger will discuss his latest climate adventure novel on Monday, while a LIVEWire poetry open-mic night will also take place on the same day.

Wildlife presenter and nature writer Ajay Tegala will also be coming to the town on Wednesday.

Coun Wendy Cain, cabinet spokesperson for public health and communities, said: “The next few weeks are a celebration of stories and creativity, bringing our communities together with renowned authors, poets, and local writers for a brilliant programme of events.

“From inspiring conversations to engaging family activities, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

“I encourage everyone to take a look at the programme and book onto some of the fantastic events and activities planned across Barnsley.”
