EIGHT local venues have been given new food hygiene ratings ranging from top marks to zero.

Five Barnsley establishments received top marks. The Rose and Crown, in Hoylandswaine, Penistone Royal British Legion, Silkstone Golf Club, Darfield Village Club and the Wortley Arms all received a five-star review.

Two others received four stars: Pou Poutine, based in the Glass Works, was given a score of four following an assessment on February 25. While Rigby’s at the Metrodome also received a four-star score.

One Barnsley takeaway was handed a zero-out-of-five rating. Raja Barnsley, based on Sheffield Road just outside of the town centre, was given the lowest score possible following an assessment on February 3. The report states that both food handling and the cleanliness of the building need ‘major improvement’. While the management of food safety needs ‘urgent improvement’.
