A LOCAL walking club has held a social event to help members socialise and raise money for Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Founded in 2009, Dearne Valley Walking Group has been providing regular organised walks to countless participants for more than a decade now.

On February 18, the group held their winter social event at The Tavern in Wombwell, which included a meal and an opportunity to socialise with fellow walkers.

The main part of the evening was a talk by Steve Croft of Yorkshire Air Ambulance about the history of the organisation, its development and the vital work it carries out.

The group has been a long-time supporter of the charity, and through a bucket collection held on the night donated an extra £186 to the cause.
