BARNSLEY College has officially opened the doors of its Job Shop.
The Job Shop, based at the College’s Business Centre on County Way, will provide a dedicated space for employers to advertise vacancies to potential candidates – with the college working alongside Jobcentre Plus to support employers and jobseekers.
The site builds upon the Business Centre, opened in 2022 to provide facilities and tailored support to businesses – who in turn are able to offer opportunities for students to gain work experience.
The College’s Employer Engagement team has developed the Job Shop concept, which joins a host of employer relationship schemes such as the academy programme.
Helen Weatherston, Director of Employer Engagement, said: “We are delighted to launch the Job Shop. By providing a dedicated space for employers to advertise vacancies and engage with potential candidates, we are creating valuable opportunities for both businesses and jobseekers.
“This initiative builds on our ongoing commitment to supporting employers and enhancing career prospects for our students.”
Barnsley College Principal and CEO David Akeroyd said: “The plans for the Business Centre were a few years in the making, to have a place which directly connects business with education.
“The next step of this is the Job Shop – which brings a unique opportunity to work even more closely with partners in the local business community.
“It’s so important that our students have the opportunity to engage with employers, and that employers have the chance to come in and see where the talent pipeline is – and where they can provide opportunities and inspiration for our students.”
