BARNSLEY is one of the hardest-hit areas in the country by home burglaries, a study has revealed.

Researchers at Mortgage Lane delved into national crime data, revealing a staggering 531,760 home break-ins reported over the past year.

Barnsley was ranked as the 16th worst place for burglaries in the country, with 7.75 incidents per 1,000 people.

Joseph Lane, from Mortgage Lane, said: “This data provides a clear picture of the areas where burglary is most prevalent, but it also sparks questions about the factors driving these figures.

“Whether it’s the lack of police presence, social inequalities, or simply the nature of densely populated areas, it’s evident that certain places are facing bigger challenges when it comes to safeguarding homes.

“This study reminds us that improving home security and community efforts remain crucial in the fight against burglary across the UK.”
