BARNSLEY South MP Stephanie Peacock completed defibrillation training to mark Restart a Heart Day.
Every October organisations unite to promote public awareness of cardiac arrest and encourage people to undertake lifesaving training.
The British Heart Foundation reported that defibrillators are only used in ten per cent of hospital cardiac arrest cases.
Findings show that early defibrillation can boost survival rates up to 70 per cent.
St John Ambulance service delivered the training, outlining how to recognise a person in need of CPR and correct defibrillation procedure.
Stephanie said: “I was pleased to complete CPR and defibrillation training with St John Ambulance recently.
“Restart a Heart Day takes place in October every year, and is a chance to highlight the importance of administering defibrillation and CPR, when it is required.
“I encourage everyone who can to consider undertaking CPR training, and pay tribute to all those working for organisations like the Resuscitation Council, the British Heart Foundation, and St John Ambulance, who work so hard to increase survival rates for those who suffer a cardiac arrest.”
