HOUSE rents have climbed 56 per cent in Barnsley since the pandemic, a council report has revealed.

However, would-be tenants have not let increasing prices deter them from applying, with expressions of interest said to have hit record highs.

The report, which will be discussed by a council scrutiny panel this week, said: “Significant rent increases since the pandemic and a shortage of rental homes becoming available add to the difficulties.

“Demand has increased considerably with some landlords reporting between 20 and 100 expressions of interest for each property they offer for rental.”
