OVER twenty pubs, cafes and takeaways have achieved five stars in the latest round of food hygiene assessments.
Five pubs all received the top score following their inspections. The Old Post Office in Haigh, Cubley Hall and Worsbrough Sports and Development Association received five-star ratings following an assessment last month. While Red Lion Country Inn in Worsbrough and Birdwell’s Dearne Valley Farm also achieved the top score.
Eleven Barnsley cafes were also handed five-star ratings. Low Valley Snack Bar in Wombwell, Cafe Cream in the town centre, Old George in the town hall and Cooper Gallery received the top marks following an inspection in February. As did Charlotte’s in Thurnscoe, Miller’s Tea Room in Worsbrough, Old George on Market Hill, and Darton Coffee House. While college cafes Zest, The Open Kitchen and Crumbs also scored well.
Eight takeaways also got five-out-of-five. Bite Me Sandwich Bar in Bolton-upon-Dearne, Ernie’s Fish and Chips in Hoyland and Dodworth Road Fish Bar all picked up the top scores. As did English Rose Bakery in Elsecar, Foodie in Hoyland and Royston’s Boxxed. While Greggs at Stairfoot and Kurdistan Pizza in Penistone also received the top mark.
Meanwhile, Ashiana, a takeaway based on Burton Road in Monk Bretton, was given a score of three following its assessment on January 20.
