THE winners of Barnsley Council’s Tour of Britain art competition have been announced.

This competition which showcased a wealth of talent.was held to celebrate Barnsley being selected to host the finish of Stage Three of this year’s Men’s Race.

The council invited children to decorate their own “Barnsley wheel”, highlighting what they love about living in the borough, from their favourite place and favourite school subject to what activities they enjoy doing.

Dozens of entries were received from across Barnsley and beyond, and the Mayor and Mayoress of Barnsley had the tough job of choosing the winners.

The winners were as follows:

Barnsley Wheel

Age 4 to 7: Esther Turner, aged seven

Age 8 to 11: Rafe Nutter, aged nine

Aged 12 and over: Lottie Rhodes, aged 13

Jersey design:

Age 4 to 7: Grace Harris, age six

Age 8 and over: Georgia Finbow, aged ten.

The Deputy Mayor of Barnsley, Coun David Leech, welcomed the winners and their families to the Town Hall to congratulate them and celebrate their impressive artwork.

Each winner was presented with a certificate and a Barnsley Gift Card.

Coun Robin Franklin, cabinet spokesperson for regeneration and culture, said: “We are very impressed with the creativity, imagination and artistic talent of the many young people who entered our Tour of Britain art competition.

“Hosting the race was a great honour for Barnsley and it is wonderful that our young artists were inspired to enter the contest and celebrate what makes living in Barnsley great.

“I’m sure everyone will join me in saying well done and thank you to everyone who took part in the competition and congratulations to all the winners.”
