PLANS to introduce waiting restrictions on a Hemingfield road are set to be approved despite objections from local residents.

In March this year, the council revealed proposals to introduce the restrictions on parts of Cemetery Road and its junction with Lady Croft Lane.

A planning consent was granted in July 2017 for a new development of 20 houses with a new access from Cemetery Road.

As part of the planning consent, conditions were imposed to protect the visibility at the new access road junction and Cemetery Road.

But the council received four objections from local residents.

The report states: “As a result of advertising the proposal, there are four outstanding objections to consider.

“A business owner on Cemetery Road said the proposed waiting restrictions will have a detrimental effect towards their business, there isn’t enough parking for the houses let alone their customers.

“Elderly and disabled customers rely on the ability to park outside the business and opposite the road if needed.”

Other concerns included having a negative impact on the housing market and the restrictions not being properly enforced.

However, the council are set to approve the restrictions at a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

The report added: “The grounds of objection have been fully considered and assessed but they do not raise any issues that would warrant the proposed restrictions to be changed or abandoned.

“The restrictions are necessary to prevent obstructions at the junctions, protect visibility and provide a safer road environment for all road users whilst keeping a free flow of traffic.”
