A FUNDRAISING fitness coach has completed a coast-to-coast bike ride despite suffering an injury along the way.
David Wilkinson, who works for Grassroots Sports Academy Yorkshire at Carlton, completed his coast-to-coast fundraising challenge this week.
He set off on Friday to cycle from Morecambe to Bridlington and was joined by one of his Bears Den regulars Steven Gasston.
The pair completed 93 miles but, due to a knee problem, David decided to rest the injury over the weekend and finished the ride on Monday.
David said: “On Monday there was just me and I got the remaining 77 miles in – my body was in bits but it was well worth it for the cause.”
In his role with Grassroots Sports Academy David and his colleagues have been working with care homes to keep residents active using fun, games and activities and he has completed various fundraisers to raise funds to continue the sessions.
“We have had so much success with our work and it has had a massive impact on residents' overall wellbeing that we have already worked with that it's something we as a company are very passionate about," said David.
Recently, the company has been offering free six-week sessions to all care homes and would love to hear from any facilities who would like to get involved.
David has raised £645 so far from the ride, but there is still time to donate: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/freeactivitiesforlocalcarehomes2?utm_term=zNRMeVQPB
