POLICE are investigating reports of antisocial behaviour after off-road bikers reportedly caused criminal damage at a local football club.
On Tuesday, North Gawber Colliery Football Club’s pitch, on Spark Lane, was targeted between 12.40pm and 5.30pm.
It’s believed the pitch was ruined by off-road bikers acting in a ‘selfish’ and ‘mindless’ manner.
A spokesperson for the club said: “As part of our commitment to give our members the best possible experience, every season we invest tens of thousands of pounds into maintaining our pitches to the highest possible standard and regularly receive compliments for their condition.
“Thousands of volunteer hours go into making our club what it is.
“The selfishness of an individual has put waste to that investment.
“On days like today it feels like we’re fighting against the tide and makes you question the effort.
“If anyone has any information about who may have done this, please come forward.
“We would like to educate them of the implications of their actions.”
Coun Steve Hunt, who represents the Darton East ward, said the police are asking for people to come forward with information.
He said: “The pitch is used and maintained by the club who are a fantastic community asset running multiple teams for different age groups.
“This damage has come as a bitter blow to them.
“Following the damage I have contacted the neighbourhood policing inspector to call for action in relation to off-road bikes which I am receiving increasing complaints about.”
