ALMOST £2,500 will be spent on replacing signs at a local cemetery which are currently in disrepair.

The two signs at Darfield Cemetery are approaching 20 years old and subsequently a total of £2,450 has been earmarked by the Section 106 panel to replace them.

A report states: “The signs are invaluable to members of the public in helping to find grave sections and the location of facilities such as bins and water taps.

“The signs also serve as legal notices to the public particularly for headstone safety inspections and the laws governing cemetery use, opening times.

“Without these signs it could become difficult to prosecute offenders due to the lack of notice for specific offences.”

The scheme will be financed from a development at Low Valley Farm, on Pitt Street in Darfield.

There is currently £48,000 available to be used for the provision or improvement to public open spaces.
