A BARNSLEY College student and her gymnastics partner have been crowned Yorkshire champions for the second consecutive year.
Learning for Living and Work student Ellie Hardy and Lola, were crowned Yorkshire Champion for Grade 4 Disability Acrobatic Gymnastics at the competition at Barnsley Metrodome.
Ellie and Lola excelled in the acrobatic gymnastics category.
Alongside her college studies, Ellie trains four times a week at the Wakefield Gymnastics Club, showcasing her passion and commitment to the sport.
Ellie said: “I started training in gymnastics when I was eight years old. I enjoy taking part in gymnastics conditioning. I am proud of myself for putting in a lot of effort and hard work to achieve this. Being crowned Yorkshire Champion for Grade 4 Disability Acrobatic Gymnastics makes me very happy.
“My tutors have been very encouraging and supportive throughout my journey. I thank them for their continued support.
In March of last year, Ellie qualified for the Disability Gymnastics British Finals where she and Lola secured third place in the country.
Will Roberts, Learning for Living and WorkCurriculum Leader and one of Ellie’s tutors, added: “It is a great achievement to be named champion once, but to win it twice in a row is a real accolade and we’re so proud of Ellie! She has shown dedication and resilience all whilst continuing her studies. During the student’s learning, we encourage them to take part in enriching activities that contribute to their independent living skills, and we are glad to see she has taken that on board.”
