PLANS to open a new car wash have been rejected by the council’s planning board for a second time.
An application was originally submitted in June last year to create the business on Platts Common Industrial Estate.
The plans sought to turn the land into a hand car wash – which included a staff room as well as staff and visitor parking.
However, the council rejected these plans earlier this year.
Despite this, applicant Wayne Hadfield had resubmitted his plans to the council’s planning board in hopes the application will this time be approved.
But it was once again rejected earlier this week and the council are set to take enforcement action against a nearby site as a result
A report states: “Since the refusal of application 2023/0435 the redline boundary of the site has been reduced (1,450m2 down to 768m2) and does not include the area to the west which was previously proposed to accommodate queuing traffic and staff/visitor parking.
“It is believed that this area now accommodates the unauthorised car sales business and will be subject to enforcement action.”
A total of 30 neighbouring properties were made aware of the plans, with six letters of objection submitted to the planning board.
The main points of concern were increased waste, increased congestion and reduced highway safety.
The plans were subsequently turned down by the council.
The report added: “This proposal is for a car wash which likely utilises noise generating equipment such as generators, jet washes and vacuums.
“Jet washes generate spray which can cause nuisance to neighbouring building users.
“Furthermore, the combustion engine cars utilising the car wash would likely have their engines running and there would also be music playing within the cars.
“The applicant continues to rely on land outside of the applicants’ ownership or control to ensure the safe operation, access and egress of the site.
“Furthermore, there would be an intensification in use of Chambers Road which currently only accommodates a modest number of vehicle movements.”
