TWO groups in Barnsley have benefited from cash seized from criminals by police investigators.

Barnsley FC Community Trust and HumanKind received £9,995 and £9,495 respectively from the Proceeds of Crime Act in 2023/24, police documents revealed.

The grants scheme has been in place for almost a decade and a total of £2m has made its way to non-profit organisations across the county.

“The Proceeds of Crime Act refers to monies confiscated from criminals and awarded to worthy causes to help reduce crime and the impacts of crime in South Yorkshire,” the police report said.

“Non-profit organisations can apply for a maximum of £10,000 to deliver projects lasting up to 12 months.”
