BARNSLEY FC’s beloved Oakwell Stadium is among a number of the nation’s iconic football grounds celebrated in an artist’s first book.
Known for sport-related artwork, Paul Town originally studied building and construction and has always had a love for design and architecture.
Now, in his first book, the globally-recognised artist will be blending his two passions as he creates more than 100 illustrations of Britain’s iconic football grounds, past and present.
One of those featured in ‘The Man Who Paints Football’ is the Reds’ home ground Oakwell, which dates back to the 1880s.
Paul said: “I chose to paint Oakwell from the home end so the club’s supporters could see a view they’d recognise instantly from bygone years.
“The artwork includes the John Smith’s Stand as a stand-out feature of the ground.
“My love for football, and in particular my love for football grounds, began as a young child.
“Over the past decade I have been able to turn my passion into my profession and this first book provides an insight into both a lost world of football and my journey as an artist.”
