SUMMER activities sessions at a local sports club have been cancelled today due to travellers arriving on the site last night.
Active Barnsley who are based at Shaw Lane Sports Club and run the activities as part of the council summer programme made the announcement late last night.
A spokesman said: “Unfortunately, due to a group of travellers arriving to settle on the site tonight, Shaw Lane Sports Club has taken the decision to close until further notice, and as such, we are unable to run our summer holiday activities on Thursday August 22.
“We will review the situation, and if the site is reopened, make a decision about Friday 23rd in due course.
“Sorry for the inconvenience and late notice, but this situation is beyond our control.
“The Learn to Ride session on August 22 is also sadly cancelled. We will be in touch with parents to arrange some alternative dates.”
