HUNDREDS of pensioners have been helped to claim vital support over the challenging winter months.

In October, ruling cabinet members approved the Household Support Fund (HSF) for Barnsley, funded by the government, to counteract cuts to the winter fuel allowance scheme.

A total of 42 drop-in sessions have taken place across the borough in recent weeks, which has resulted in 1,009 people receiving £200 vouchers.
