A LOCAL pensioner has been handed a suspended sentence for producing cannabis.
Peter Parker, 66, of Manchester Road, Thurlstone, appeared at court charged with the production of a class B drug and the abstract use of electricity without any authority.
He received a six-month custodial sentence, suspended for 12 months. Parker was also ordered to pay a £239 fine.
A MAN from Athersley North has been fined for breaching a domestic abuse order. Joshua Popplewell, 20, of Radcliffe Road, was handed the order at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court on December 31. He appeared at the same court on Tuesday after breaching the order on two separate occasions, on January 13 and 15. He admitted the breach and was fined £75. Popplewell will pay £5 per week towards the fine, starting on February 18.
A MAN who failed to keep up to his unpaid work appointments following a court order is wanted by the police. An arrest warrant has been issued for 37-year-old David Beckingham, of St Mary’s Road, Darfield, after he failed to appear at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court to explain his absence.
A SUSPECTED fly-tipper will appear at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court later this month. Harvey Bratby, of Monkspring, Worsbrough, was charged following a Barnsley Council-led enquiry into waste which was found in the grounds of St Thomas’ Church, on Bank End Road and Yews Avenue, both Worsbrough. He is due to appear on February 13.
