PLANS to turn a former kennels which was used as a site to train hounds for fox hunting into a house have been approved by the council.

The former kennels, off Woodhead Road in Wortley, were used to exercise the hounds of the ‘Wharncliffe Hunt’.

However, new plans have shown the building – and subsequent land – will be turned into a ‘habitable dwelling’.

A report states: “The site is in a rural location within the green belt.

“Until the demise of fox hunting, if was used to kennel and exercise the hounds of the Wharncliffe Hunt.

“The building itself has a modest portal frame with low level external blockwork walls with timber cladding above, all under a corrugated sheeting roof.

“The building stands alone on the western side of Lodge Lane and is separated from the highway by a grassed verge and stone wall.”

The plans, which were submitted in April, were given the green light by the council’s planning board earlier this week.
