A STATUE to commemorate Barnsley’s mining heritage will be unveiled outside Barnsley Interchange in a special ceremony on Saturday (March 31.)
The artwork – which cost £165,000 – was created by Kenny Hunter. It is six metres high, cast in bronze and patinated in black, it shows the figure of a child with coal at its feet.
Maltby Miners Welfare band will be giving speeches at the unveiling from 11am.
The sculpture has been funded by Section 106 money from Morrisons, along with contributions from the NUM, Raleys Solicitors and Barnsley Council.
