NEW tables and chairs are now in Barnsley town centre.

The sets - which were delayed and should have been in place in time for the bank holiday - are temporarily replacing the seating which has been removed as part of the town centre redevelopment scheme.

They are branded with '#BetterBarnsley' and a QR code linking to the ambitious development plans for the borough, allowing people to keep up to date with what’s taking place.

Businesses based in the precinct - Poundland, WH Smith, New Look, Game, Transform Images, O2 and CA Raison Opticians - have kindly agreed to store the tables and chairs, as well as putting them up outside their stores.

Coun Roy Miller, cabinet spokesperson for place, said: "I’m pleased that people are already enjoying the new seating, it’s a welcome addition to the town centre."
