A PENSIONER has pleaded guilty to selling illegal cigarettes in a town centre pub.

Kevin Fisher was caught last May selling the illicit tobacco products – which lacked adequate health and safety labelling and resembled packaging of Lambert and Butler Blue products despite not being officially produced by the Imperial Tobacco-owned company – at the Chennells pub in town centre.

During a hearing at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court yesterday, the 67-year-old pleaded guilty to the charges, however conflicting stories were presented to the bench.

The prosecution claimed that Fisher had purchased the products on Facebook before selling them at the pub, while the defence argued that they were purchased while on holiday and being sold to friends and fellow smokers.

Fisher will be sentenced at the same court on March 27.
