SPECULATION that a closed working men’s club was due to be demolished have been quashed.
Alexandra WMC, on High Street in Royston, was closed for much of last year and a notice had been placed on a nearby lamppost informing locals of its forthcoming demolition.
However, council planning bosses have revealed that no decision has been made.
Coun Caroline Makinson, who represents the Royston ward, said: “I’ve been in touch with our planning department and no consent has been given for this to go ahead.
“It’s been closed for about a year now but permission has to be given before any work can be done on the building.”
